Here are some statistics to get your mind in the mood. Do you remember these hat-tricks?
Fastest English Premier League Hat-Trick: Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, aged just 19, showed his immense potential by scoring a first half hat-trick in only four minutes and 32 seconds against Arsenal and former England veteran David Seaman. Fastest English Football League Hat-Trick: Substitute James Hayter came on for Bournemouth in the 84th-minute against Wrexham to score a memorable hat-trick and double his team's advantage in only two minutes and 20 seconds. Fastest Scottish Premiership Hat-Trick: Going back to 1959 we find that whilst at Motherwell Ian St John scored a hat-trick in only 150 seconds against Hibernian. Hat-Trick Against Three Different Keepers: West Ham great Alvin Martin scored first against Martin Thomas, who was soon replaced by Chris Hedworth. Alvin Martin then scored against Hedworth and completed his hat-trick against striker come goalkeeper Peter Beardsley. What makes this even more fascinating is that Alvin Martin was a defender. First Hat-Trick by a Goalkeeper: The extraverted Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert became the first goalkeeper to score a hat-trick. He scored them all from the same spot, three penalties for Argentine side Velez Sarsfield against Ferro Carril Oeste in 1999. Most Hat-Tricks in an International: Our own Archie Thompson holds the record for most goals scored in an international, with 13 goals to his name in the World Cup qualifier of Australia versus American Samoa in 2001; a total of four hat-tricks in one game. Hat-Trick of Hat-Tricks: In Round 11 of the Hyundai A-League Sydney FC's Sasho Petrovski, Central Coast's Ante Milicic and Perth Glory's Damian Mori each scored a hat-trick. Do you know which of these player's went down in history as scoring the first ever hat-trick of Australia's new national football competition? Visit www.worldfootballregister.com to find out.
